What would happen if you put others before yourself in every area of your life? If you asked yourself not “what can I get?” but “what can I give?”

In this episode, Bob Burg and I are talking about what the go-giver philosophy is and why it’s so critical to service-based entrepreneurs.

Bob is sharing the five laws that will bring you personal effectiveness and professional success and why being a “go-giver” is congruent with human nature.

This episode is all about shifting the focus from you to others and watching what happens.

For over 30 years, Bob Burg has been successfully showing entrepreneurs, leaders, and sales professionals how to communicate their value and accelerate their referral businesses. Although he was best known for his sales classic Endless Referrals for years, his business parable The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann, has created a worldwide movement.

The Go-Giver (part of a four-book series) has sold more than one million copies and has been translated into 30 languages. It was rated #10 on Inc. Magazine’s list of The Most Motivational Books Ever Written and was on HubSpot’s 20 Most Highly-Rated Sales Books of All Time. Bob is an advocate, supporter, and defender of the free enterprise system, believing that the amount of money someone makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve.

He is also an unapologetic animal fanatic and served on the Board of Directors of Furry Friends Adoption & Clinic in his town of Jupiter, Florida.

In our very thorough conversation, you’ll learn:

  • How to shift your focus from getting to giving
  • The five laws that will bring you personal effectiveness and professional success
  • The difference between price and value and why it’s so important to understand
  • How to provide value in the way someone wants to receive it
  • The biggest mistake that salespeople and entrepreneurs make
  • The golden nugget of advice that shifted Bob’s perspective and played a big role in his success
  • Why asking if something will make money isn’t a bad question, it’s just a bad first question
  • Why being a “go-giver” is congruent with human nature
