Mediocrity Didn’t Look Good on Me… and It Doesn’t Look Good on You Either

Mediocrity: It’s insidious. It looks like success on the surface—a thriving business, a packed schedule, revenue goals checked off. It convinces us we’re doing just fine, even when something inside us is screaming, This isn’t it.

I didn’t recognize it for what it was until my entire world came crashing down. At the time, I had built a business I thought was everything I wanted. From the outside, it looked like success. But the truth? It was a house of cards. I was grinding day and night, following all the so-called expert advice, and chasing results that looked good on paper but left me feeling empty. I was living in survival mode, drowning in stress, and desperately trying to stay afloat.

And then it happened. My business collapsed. Everything I had worked so hard to build disappeared almost overnight. Financially, emotionally, and spiritually, I was bankrupt. I was left staring at the wreckage of my life, wondering where it all went wrong.

But rock bottom is a powerful teacher.

The Moment I Saw the Cage

I remember sitting in the quiet aftermath of my business’s collapse, staring at the walls of my living room. For the first time in years, I wasn’t busy. There were no meetings to run to, no endless to-do list consuming my thoughts — just me, forced to confront the truth I had been avoiding.

I realized I had built my entire business and life around someone else’s definition of success. I had followed all the rules, played by the book, and prioritized what others said I should want. And in doing so, I had trapped myself in a cage of mediocrity.

That realization hit me like a ton of bricks: I had been complicit in my own imprisonment. The hustle, the constant striving, the relentless grind — it wasn’t aligned with who I truly was. I wasn’t leading. I wasn’t innovating. I was surviving.

And that survival mode wasn’t just draining me — it was killing my ability to live and lead fully.

The Personal Decision That Changed Everything

In that moment, I made a decision that changed my life forever. I decided I would never settle for mediocrity again.

It wasn’t an easy decision. Mediocrity is comfortable — it’s predictable. It lets you stay in a job, a business, or a life that’s “fine” while avoiding the discomfort of growth. But I knew that if I wanted something extraordinary, I had to burn the playbook entirely.

I chose to rebuild — not just my business, but my entire way of operating. I leaned into my purpose, aligned with my genius, and let go of anything that didn’t serve my highest potential. It was terrifying, but it was also liberating. For the first time, I wasn’t building based on what the world said I should do. I was building based on what I knew I was meant to create.

The Problem with Mediocrity

Here’s the thing about mediocrity — it’s not just a personal issue. It’s systemic. We’re born into a world that conditions us to follow rules, color inside the lines, and prioritize safety over innovation. From the time we’re kids, we’re taught to stay small.

And as adults, we perpetuate the cycle. We tolerate jobs that don’t light us up, relationships that drain us, and businesses that feel like a never-ending grind. Even when we recognize it, fear keeps us stuck. We cling to the illusion of security because the alternative—stepping fully into our power—feels like too much of a risk.

But here’s the truth: the world doesn’t need more of the same. It doesn’t need leaders who are stuck in survival mode, playing it safe, or settling for “good enough.” The world needs bold, innovative leaders who are willing to break free, disrupt the status quo, and create something truly EPIC.

The New Paradigm of Leadership

We’re standing at a crossroads. The old way—the hustle culture, the outdated playbook, the obsession with surface-level success—is crumbling. The world is crying out for a new kind of leader: one who operates from alignment, leads with purpose, and builds with intention.

This new paradigm isn’t about working harder or chasing hollow metrics. It’s about stepping into your unique genius, leveraging your strengths, and creating businesses that are aligned, impactful, and profitable.

It’s about understanding that mediocrity isn’t just a personal limitation—it’s a disservice to the world. When you settle, you rob the world of your potential to create, innovate, and lead at your highest level.

How to Break Free

Breaking free from mediocrity starts with one decision: to refuse to settle. Here’s how you begin:

1. Take a Hard Look at Your Life

Ask yourself: Where am I playing small? What am I tolerating that no longer serves me? Be brutally honest.

2. Align with Your Genius

Stop trying to do it all. Identify the work that lights you up and creates the most impact. That’s where your genius lives.

3. Burn the Boats

Commit fully. Mediocrity thrives on indecision. When you burn the boats, you leave yourself no option but to move forward boldly.

4. Redefine Success on Your Terms

Success isn’t about following someone else’s blueprint. It’s about creating a life and business that feel deeply aligned with who you are and what you’re here to do.

5. Surround Yourself with Innovators

The company you keep will either cage you in mediocrity or challenge you to rise. Choose wisely.

The EPIC Choice

Rebuilding my business — and my life — wasn’t easy. It required letting go of everything I thought I knew about success and embracing a new way of thinking, leading, and living. But here’s what I know for sure: it was worth it.

Mediocrity didn’t look good on me. And it doesn’t look good on you, either.

The world needs you — fully aligned, fully empowered, and fully committed to your purpose. The future belongs to leaders who are bold enough to disrupt the status quo and create something extraordinary.

So, are you ready to stop settling and start building an EPIC AF life and business? The choice is yours. And trust me — it’s the best decision you’ll ever make.
